Wedding Reception Planning

Wedding planning in the UK is somewhat restricted by the fact that you currently can only get married at certain approved venues. The restrictions here are much greater than in the United States for example.

The choice of UK wedding venues are expanding by the year, but whatever the choice, the New Mill, Eversley will remain our recommendation for an intimate UK South of England wedding reception. It's a very homely setting with a secluded garden backing onto the River Blackwater - ideal for a wedding reception with a difference. Our wedding reception was small and intimate with around 50 close friends and family present.

The New Mill Management were particularly accommodating and we had several meetings to review the wedding reception menus, bar times and seating arrangements. The wedding reception dinner was buffet style and we deliberately chose a number of 'safe bet' dishes to cater for all tastes.

To maintain an air of informality we also did not adopt any formal seating plan for the wedding reception. This actually worked really well as people always feel more comfortable sitting with people they have something in common with. The actual wedding ceremony took place late in the afternoon and the festivities started early evening. A room in the New Mill was set aside specifically for Children with a TV and Video together with toys and balloons. This also worked very well and the children were entertained from the minute they arrived.

During the evening of the wedding reception we had a disco with music from our era (70s and 80s) with some more recent chart hits for the teenagers. Since everyone had had quite a few glasses of wine by the time the disco started, the evening went with a swing! In fact, many of the children joined in, some had to be dragged away in tears when it was bed time, they enjoyed themselves so much!
